Part
2 of Tony's DT replica build Story - Part 1 here
The trike was still in the bare metal stage without the back tub fitted when we first decided bring the old girl into life. True to form she started up and Andy went off down the road on test with tempory mudguards and lights fitted. He returned with a big smile on his face, we found the gearing was OK (pure guess work) and all was working good. At this stage we did not have a charging system sorted. The next stage was the MOT test which was a 16 mile ride to the only local garage able to test three wheeled machines. Yes in bare metal, tempory fitted rear mudgaurds and no back tub the 741 passed its test. Following approximately 50 miles of further
testing and tweaking we stripped her down for the paint and plating work.
After collecting all the powder coating, the wet paintwork and the nickel
plating we started the reassembly.

Yes it was looking good, all work carefully reassembled. It looked a different machine now in full colour with transfers on. We were pleased. Then the signwriter turned up at the workshop to complete the artwork. He spent a few hours carefully sketching out the artwork on the rear of the tub, and when finnished we could not believe the result. This was the icing on the cake. The first outing for public display was to the International Indian Rally in Scotland where Andy and daughter Anna rode around the stately grounds. The electrics were sorted by using a 12 volt mini car dynamo after reversing the direction and a solid state regulator positioned between the tanks. The coil is also mounted between the tanks. The tanks are now spaced 25mm further apart than standard and mounted on fixed studs which allows each one to be easily removed. The extra wide gap between the tanks is concealed with the 65mm leather strap complete with the embossed Indian logo. We are now all sorted with the DT Replica and whereever Andy goes on rides out it is always the centre of attraction |
Super cool signwriting. And very funny too. I am not sure I should try to explain why I find it so funny, but Tony lives in Scarborough, North Yorkshire... Check out Tony's Indian Trading website for more custom Indians. |
